I photographed the children’s books Panda: A Guide Horse for Ann and Gardening for Kids (in production),

    Formats: I began shooting digitally in spring 2006. Earlier stock is available either as scans from slides to your specifications or as fine-grain Fuji Velvia slides. I prefer working in outdoor ambient light but also shoot with studio lighting. I have collaborated with wildlife photographers Lennie & Uschi Rue (whose bear and raccoon photos appear on the “Deer-Resistant...” cover shown above right), as well as Third-World photographer Victor Englebert, nature photographer Dwight Kuhn, and photo researchers.

COLD FRAME TO DIE FOR—photos and field notes on a homemade cold frame that greatly improves on the standard storm-window hinged over a wooden box. My design features a  unique but simple hinging assembly. The clear cover will withstand heavy, 18-inch wet snowfalls. In Zone 5 NY state, we’ve harvested cold-frame lettuce as late as mid-November and as early as early April with snow on the ground.

ELECTRIC TOOLS (I am the author of Chainsaw Savvy

running and create no noxious fumes. My electric

Stihl handled a 16-inch diameter maple, albeit at a
