Karan Davis Cutler has received eight writing awards from the Garden Writers of America Association. She has written and edited six Brooklyn Botanic Garden handbooks, including the prize-winning Salad Gardens, and is the author of Burpee: The Complete Flower Gardener (2007); Burpee: The Complete Vegetable & Herb Gardener: A Guide to Growing Your Garden Organically (1997); Herb Gardening for Dummies (2000); The New England Gardener's Book of Lists (2000), and a nearly completed manuscript, available for publication, called Landscaping to Attract Birds. Dr. Thomas S. Elias is a botanist, author, and popular lecturer. He served as Director of the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington for 16 years before deciding to devote full time to writing. Earlier, he was Director of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont, California, and Chairman of the Graduate Program in Botany at Claremont Graduate School. He has also held positions at the New York Botanical Garden and the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University.
