Sheila Buff is also an active health journalist and has written or ghostwritten numerous articles on dietary supplements, nutrition, weight loss, diabetes, fitness, and many other topics. She is a regular contributor to health-related websites such as dLife.com and HealthyWoman.com. In addition, she is a contributing writer to Sharecare.com, a major new health website created by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Discovery Health.

    Her other writing and personal interests include birding, natural history, gardening, and the outdoors. She is also the author of Insider’s Guide to the Hudson Valley (Globe Pequot Press, 2009) and Birding for Beginners, second edition (Falcon Guides, 2010).



Karan Davis Cutler has received eight writing awards from the Garden Writers of America Association. She has written and edited six Brooklyn Botanic Garden handbooks, including the prize-winning Salad Gardens, and is the author of Burpee: The Complete Flower Gardener (2007); Burpee: The Complete Vegetable & Herb Gardener: A Guide to Growing Your Garden Organically (1997); Herb Gardening for Dummies (2000); The New England Gardener's Book of Lists (2000), and a nearly completed manuscript, available for publication, called Landscaping to Attract Birds. Karan his also published many articles in Horticulture, The American Gardener, Organic Gardening, Harrowsmith Country Life, and others.



Dr. Thomas S. Elias is a botanist, author, and popular lecturer. He served as Director of the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington for 16 years before deciding to devote full time to writing.  Earlier, he was Director of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont, California, and Chairman of the Graduate Program in Botany at Claremont Graduate School.  He has also held positions at the New York Botanical Garden and the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University. He is the author, coauthor, or editor of 135 scientific or popular-science papers and seven books. His books include Chrysanthemum Flowers: The Story of Stone Flowers (2010), The Complete Trees of North America, Second Edition (1988), Conservation and Management of Rare and Endangered Plants (1987), Experience in Introduction and Conservation in the USSR and the USA (1986), The Biology of Nectaries (1983), Field Guide to North American Edible Wild Plants (1982), and Extinction is Forever (1976).  The American Library Association selected three of his books as among the 100 Best Books in Science and Technology in the years they were published. Tom has made more than 275 presentations at professional societies and conferences, nationally and internationally (China, England, Egypt, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, and South Africa). He is skilled with Powerpoint presentations and enjoys media interviews, whether print, radio, or TV.



Barbara W. Ellis  is the author of seven gardening books: Covering Ground (Storey, 2007), Shady Retreats (Storey, 2003), Deckscaping (Storey, 2002), and the rights-reverted Taylor's Guide to Growing North America's Favorite Plants as well as Taylor guides on annuals, perennials, and bulbs. Barbara coauthored Burpee: The Complete Flower Gardener (Wiley, 2007). She has edited many gardening books, including Burpee: The Complete Vegetable & Herb Gardener, Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials and Rodale's All-New Enc

Victor Englebert is the author/photographer of Wind, Sand & Silence: Travels with Africa’s Last Nomads (Chronicle) and nine assigned National Geographic articles, among countless articles for adults and children. Specializing in vanishing tribes of the world, Victor is sole photographer of 17 books including Aborigines of the Rain Forest: The Yanomami (Time-Life). Traveling b
y camel and donkey in extreme climates, such as that of the Sahara and elsewhere, Victor often needed to escape bandits and packs of wild dogs. When traveling by motor scooter the length of Africa, he often slept in trees to be safe from lions and hyenas. J.D. Hunley is researching a book about the nature of truth in fiction and history. A PhD in history, he is the author of five books:

or or editor of a large number of articles, chapters, and books about various aspects of aerospace history, Hunley is a retired Chief Historian for the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center. He has, in addition, been a NASA Headquarters historian, a historian for the U.S. Air Force, and, following retirement from Dryden, a Ramsey Fellow at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.



Leonard Lee Rue III (Lennie) is one of the the most

widely published wildlife photographers in the world. Lennie

Dick Weissman has written 18 books on music and the music industry, including The Great Family Songbook with Dan Fox.  As a musician, Dick was a member of the folk trio, The Journeymen, with John Phillips and Scott Mckenzie. Dick is also a solo live performer and an accompanist. He has played in hundreds of recording sessions, produced numerous albums, and written numerous
recorded songs and instrumental pieces, as well as two feature-film scores. Dick teaches at various universities. He has won the Deems Taylor ASCAP Music Critics Award, and was a finalist for the Oregon book award in nonfiction writing. He’s at dickweissman.com
